Audience Profile

For our audience research we used the UK Tribes quiz to see the percentage of listeners for our genre. We got people who listen to dance/electronic music to take the quiz, and as a result we saw that 58% of our listeners are Trendie, 25% is a Tumblr Kid (Blogger) and 17% is New Casual. This is very useful, this is because we now see who we are trying to appeal to and therefore we can adjust our artist accordingly. We got a few people to take the test, 10 people, and from these 10 people we to an average percentage for our target audience.

Our age range is 16-26, and our group description is ‘Student Life’, these are essentially college/university students. This is because at this age these teenagers and young adults begin to party at this age and enjoy EDM and Dance music, some even make their own remixes of the song. This gave us the inspiration to play up more on this idea of having a new era of music for the young generation who can also get involved, attempting to appeal to our target age even more.

This group description is very useful because it gives us an insight on how to appeal to the majority and by looking at the statistics we now know what type of students we are trying to appeal to. The fact that the results have shown us that our target audience is mostly trendie, it has narrowed down certain factors that we must think about when creating a music video. For example what it is that the characters in the video will be wearing. By knowing that our audience is trendie, and are usually Tumbler bloggers, gave us the idea to go on social networking and blogging sites like Tumblr, and look at what kind of fashion ideas we can find. You can expect this certain audience to shop at places considered trendie, such as Urban Outfitters, Asos, BooHoo or Misguided. Here are a few images of what we have found.

We also saw that our song was within the same genre as artists like Duke Dumont, and so we searched images of their concerts, to establish briefly what kind of people you'd expect to see at their shows, for example their ethnicity and their dress sense again. We could also see what kind of venues you'd typically find artists within the EDM genre playing at. Here are a few images we found;

The images found predominatly show spacious venues, which allows people to dance, as the songs that are played are usually hyped and upbeat, making for a very alive and bustling atmosphere. We also found that the audience is usually made up of white male and females.

We have also received feedback from people, we done this by playing our chosen song to the user and asked what do they imagine to see going on while the music is playing. Some of our ideas came from this, but we developed these ideas.
