Flat Plans Digipak

Draft Flat Plans
Initially, we had planned for this to be the colours for the front cover of our digipak, however from some audience feedback that we had recieved, we decided that it was not a good idea, as the colours seemed a little to gothic, which is way off from the theme that we were going for, especially since our genre is EDM.

This was the draft of our back cover, we hadn't come up with song titles at the time, so drew out boxes where they were expected to be. The back cover stayed relatively the same for both thr draft and final flat plans, however ones in much more detail and coloured in.
Final Flat Plans
Front Cover
With the front cover, we decided to stick to the theme of a musical rebellion with the fist holding an AUX cord, along with the anarchy logo. However instead of the red and black colours, we decided to use the conventional black and white, but with splashes of luminous colours like bright yello and bright green. We also wanted to carry out the idea of adding shapes into our digipak like the two triangles that are on Avicii's album cover 'True', so we decided to add a diamond.
We struggled when it came to deciding colours, and what colour to make what, we oringinally got out colour inspiration from the Duke Dumont album Need U 100%, however decided to remove the pink colour, as we thought it may seem a little over the top, especially since we have images on our digipak, whereas they only have text. We came to the conclusion that we would test of changing the colours on the computer when we finally created the official digipak, instead of drawing it out. The image to the left is an example of what the front cover will look and be set out like, however the colours may not where they are now.
We also have not come up with a decent name for our artist so that has not yet been added onto the digipak, however, when you do, we have decided to add it in small. We have decided this because we feel that the artist name isn't what we want to be established most. We wanted people to get a feel of what the music on the album would be about first. Also we decided it wasn't as important is because most of the tracks that we have on the album have featuring artists who actually do the singing, so we wanted it to seem almost like a group collected album rather than just one artists.
Back Cover
For the back cover, we wrote a lot of unknown artists featuring on the tracks, appearing more than once, as thats typical for DJ dance artists to do. They almost always have up and coming, new, unheard of artists featuring in their songs. We also added in bonus tracks, as that's common on albums, especially EDM ones. One of the songs on the bonus tracklist is an instrumental, and we added that because our artist doesn't sing, and so for one of the tracks we wanted the audience to actually listen to what the artist has made, rather than just listening and singing along to the lyrics of the featuring artist. Having featuring artists on a DJ's album usually attracts, the attention of the audience away from the actual artist themselves at times, so this instrumental is like an appreciation track for our artist.
As for the image, we are pondering the idea of having the prtagonist standing infront of not only a brick wall, but a brick wall with street art on it, for example the ones in Brick Lane, which is where we will be filming some of our music video. The colour of the text will also either remain black or be white, depending on which one is easier to read with such a background, however we may add a text background, will a low level of opacity, so that it looks almost like the brick is worn away, giving a kind of effect that is demonstrated in the image to the right.
Lastly, we had considered making the protagonist hold something in his hand, for example perhaps a flag with an anarchy symbol on it, or a spary painted AUX cord, however we decided against this, as we felt that perhaps it would overcrowd the image, making it look like too much is happening all at once, and that wouldn't really link with the simplicity of all the other covers that we have created.
Disc
For the disc, we made added on the anarchy symbol that we had drawn on our front cover. We still wanted to keep up with our simple look, and remain with the same colours that we also have on the front cover. We however aren't too sure if we want the disc to be black, with the outline green, and keep the 'A' green still. To decide this we will experiment with the colours when we create the disc on the computer, making sure to get audience feedback on it, seeing which colour sequence is prefered. We also thought about putting the artists name on it in small, but after drawing it out, decided against it, as it would look random.
Cover Inside
For the inside cover, we wanted to invert the colours on the front cover, making the diamond white and the background black, instead of the other way around. We also decided to add in a made up quote, as a few of the digipaks that we had looked at had quotes within them on either the back inside cover where the disc goes, or the inside cover. The albums we got this idea from was Pulp's 'A Different Class' and The Manic Street Preacher's 'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours'. Although these albums aren't of the same genre that we have chosen, we still felt that the albums had something important to say, and we didn't want our album to not convey some sort of meaningful message, so that is why, just like the other two albums, we added a little saying on one of the inside covers.
The extended bit of the AUX cord at the bottom of the image we also wanted to get rid of, as we was just experimenting with it, but now have decided that it would look better without it.
