Genre- Dance

For our music videos genre we have decided to choose dance music. Our song is called Runaway by a niche artist named Galantis. We originally started off within the soul genre, which is why we have a page dedicated to some research that we have done for it, however we decided to change it to dance, as we were finding it difficult to come up with solid ideas for a music video within that specific genre.

Our Initial Idea

Krishan will be our free runner who free runs around the school and other locations for instance Brick Lane, and if we are able to use some other work spaces we will use them. There will be lots of people doing boring office work and Krishan the free runner runs to them and when touching them triggers some sort of disobience towards their usual lifeless selves, giving them life, making them active and making some of the characters dance. The concept is that Krishan is this type of anarchist leader, who is rebelling against what everyone else classifies as normal, breaking them out of their dull, lifeless trance, creating a sort of musical, active revolution. It also links to the title of the song 'Runaway' as it could suggest he is helping people to run away from their usual lives, opening them up to the possibilities of exploring this new musical era.

We also decided to buy a Go Pro and implement a variety of shot types such as third person and first person from our free runner. As our starting scene, we have decided to start the video by a worm eye view looking at the cloudy sky and our protagonist frontflipping over the camera with a mid shot cut to his back.

We also had a idea of various different shots, such as a thrid person view shots while our protagonist is running, this will just be for visual purposes, which for a EDM music video is neceassery to get the listeners pumped up and motivated, and through the use of third person shot it lets the viewers feel like they are following him, and to demonstrate this idea we found an example video which is called 'Miniboss (3rd person action)'

Moodboard

Avicii- Levels

With this music video we got inspiration for our idea of everyday people doing dull and boring tasks, all of a sudden being liberated and dancing uncontrollably to the music. We also wanted to incorporate the establishing shot within our video aswell. The establishing shot in the Levels video subtly adds in the name of the song. We though this was a good idea and agreed that we would somehow try to add that into our video. We also wanted to use an establishing shot of a large office builing for one of our first shots, however due to the fact that we cannot use the inside of the actual building, we had planned on just using some of the office space within our school, making it look as little as a school as possible.

In the movie Step Up- Revolution, during the final dance scene, we were inspired by this specific clip. We have planned to get our protagonist to backflip over the camera as it looks up at the sky, then we'll cut to him landing. We have planned for this to be our first shot within our music video.

These two videos also relate somewhat to what we had in mind. They both sort of touch on the kind of rebellious theme that we wanted to incoperate throughout our music video. We wanted it to be quite fun and lighthearted, but with a signifcant meaning of not following along with what is expected of us. We also thought that the use of masks in the music videos would make it easier to get that revolutionary type of feel, so we had thought about making our protagonist wear a Guye Folkes mask, or to not show his face somehow until later on at the end of the video. However the way we wanted the storyline to go made it impossible not to show his face, and we thought that maybe the use of a mask would make it loose the comical kind of feel that we also wanted the video to display. Instead we have decided to make our protagonist wear a jacket with the logo that we have decided to use as our album logo, of a fist holding a AUX cord spray painted onto the back.

Duke Dumont- Wont Look Back

Nicky Romero- Toulouse

With the Digipak and poster logo, we liked the idea of having quite abstract like shapes. We got this inspiration from albums like Avicii's album 'True'. We also liked the idea of using very bright, luminous colours like Duke Dumont use on their album cover. We've also noticed that they often stick to a colour theme of black and white with a few bright colours at times, which we have taken on board when designing our digipak.

LMFAO- Party Rock Anthem

This video was what first gave us the idea of our music video. We were inspired by the fact that dancing in this video is contagious once someone has been touched by someone who is already contaminated by this dancing disease. However in our case we didn't want it to be like a disease, we wanted it to be like a cure. We also wanted to take into account the comical elements of this video, however we didn't want it to seem so crazy. We liked the idea of having people dressed up, however we wanted it to be less 'in your face' than the LMFAO video, as the theme of our video isn't meant to be 100% comical and humorous.

We also looked at the movie Fight Club, and got the idea of using them same type of filter that is used, which we can see in this specific screen shot. It looks almost as though there is a slight dull green tinge on everything. We thought that this would be perfect for the scenes where we see the inactive, lifeless characters within our music video, as in this exact shot of the Fight Club, the character is demonstrating the same mannerisms as we wish to recreate and incorporate in our video.
